Hello and welcome to Ted’s Xtraordinary Adventures. These short stories are designed to provide a brief insight into dyslexia but most importantly to encourage and inspire children, parents and teachers around the world. ‘Sir Winston Churchill gives Ted a plan’ illustrates how dyslexics are good a strategies and planning, despite their difficulties learning.
Ted discovers that his best friend Lucy is being bullied at school. When he asks her why, Ted discovers that the bullies are teasing her because she’s clumsy and not in any of the sports teams. Lucy’s self esteem is at rock bottom.
Angry but frustrated because he doesn’t know how to help, Ted begins to imagine himself in an array of amazing battles during which he meets Sir Winston Churchill, the infamous British second world war leader. The great leader offers to help and together they hatch a plan to deal with the bullies once and for all. Sir Winston shows Ted it’s all about self belief and recognising the talents you do have.
Ted finds Lucy and shows her that even though she’s not fantastic at sport, she’s brilliant at painting and drawing. By recognising her own talents, Ted persuades Lucy that she can face the bullies and overcome her fears.
Ted discovers that with a little bit of planning, a good strategy and a helping of self belief, difficulties with self esteem and learning can be overcome.
